Mark Lovett is a professional contemporary oil painter and commission portrait artist working in impressionist realism, known for paintings of children and parents that quietly reflect God’s love. His gallery-level work is informed by a background in photography, design, music, and visual storytelling. Mark is an associate living master at the Art Renewal Center (ARC), and represented by Rehs Gallery in New York, NY.
Born and raised in Maryland, Mark began his creative journey as a musician. By the age of 14, he was performing professionally, singing and playing guitar, a passion he pursued into his thirties. However, it was during the early years of mid-life that Mark discovered his calling as a visual artist. After struggling with alcohol and drug dependence, he found that painting became a lifeline. Through his work, and through his faith in God, Mark experienced a profound spiritual connection that now informs every brushstroke. For Mark, each painting is more than a depiction—it is a meditation, a dialogue, and a testament to hope, healing, and the beauty of life.
Mark’s formal training includes study at Nelson Shanks’ Studio Incamminati in Pennsylvania and The Art League School in Alexandria, VA, alongside numerous master artist workshops across the country. These experiences, combined with his dedication to regular live model sessions, allowed him to hone his skill in figurative and portrait painting. Mark’s work honors the traditions of the old masters, from William Bouguereau to John Singer Sargent, while merging classical technique with his own vision, creating work that is both timeless and contemporary.

His paintings have been widely celebrated, with features in publications including Bethesda Magazine, Capital File Magazine, Washington Spaces Magazine, Gulf Connoisseur Magazine Dubai, Washington Parent Magazine, Managed Futures Today Magazine, Applause Magazine Strathmore, and more. His works are held in private and corporate collections worldwide.
Mark’s portrait clients span the corporate and entertainment world, including Terraform, Lendlease, SunEdison, Broadsoft, Martek Global, designDATA, Boland, and notable individuals such as Congressman Bill Livingston, Academy Award-winning actor Forrest Whitaker, and Gregg Allman of the Allman Brothers Band. Notably, he delivered a portrait painting of Duane Allman directly to Gregg Allman, a testament to the personal connection Mark brings to every commission.
