My colors are often fairly subdued, but I was ready for a change, creating a painting with bold vibrant cool green colors interplaying with complimentary warm red tones in focal areas, with expressive brush strokes and texture, wonderful color harmony, very impactful, around one of my favorite themes …. a beautiful young dancer.
‘After the Applause’ is a painting of a young lady in repose after her dance stage performance. I had finished a period of realistic, muted tone paintings and my spirit was hungering for joyful, bold, saturated color! The color harmony is amazing, predominantly cool greens with gorgeous bold splashed of red paint in the right places. This painting satisfied my urge to freely express myself, unhindered by rigid photo realism boundaries, using lively impressionist impasto brush strokes and great passion. This painting will bring a sense of joy and peace to any room.
